Designed specifically to live beautifully in the Mainstays Collection at Walmart across the country, Bloem came to us with a specific request: provide all content for the release of this product. With a speedy turnaround required and a high standard to live up to, we took on the challenge head first – attempting to clarify the eco-friendly and intuitive new innovations inside this self-watering planter.
In order to explain not only the functional values of the product, but also how it actually works to keep plants alive better and longer, we knew we'd have to create innovative visuals to illustrate these elements effectively. We ideated on a cross-section animation that depicted the self watering function in a relatable and clear manner, utilizing fluid simulations and photorealistic textures, while keeping the film entirely in CGI to be able to call out specific functions of the planter with a style similar to a robotic arm.
This project would have been 10-20x the cost if filmed live-action with robotic arms, but, by enlisting our visual effects team, we were able to accomplish the entire campaign for a fraction of the cost and ensure 100% satisfaction with animatics and storyboards prior to any animating.
A quick timeline meant we needed to get it right the first time. By laying out the full idea through storyboards prior to any keyframes being added, we were able to iron out the flow, the messaging, and the overall visual style in advance so that we could ensure perfection on the first attempt.
This turned out to be true as the first draft ended as the final!
Whether it's the photorealism, the simulations or the efficiency employed throughout, this was a project that tested us in the realm of details. The best part is that we're already ready for round 2...
